It may or may not be something you observe, but either way, bosses can play a big part in our happiness at work.  Professor Theresa Glomb, professor in the department of work and organizations at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota joined Brian to talk about what makes a great boss.

Explorer Liv Arnesen talks "Skiing into the Bright Open"

Many of us have had dreams of extravagant adventures, faraway places, and goals that may to some seem out of our reach. Liv Arnesen is an explorer, adventurer, educator, motivational speaker, mother, author and so much more.  She's the first woman to attempt and complete a solo expedition to the South Pole in 1994.  Julie spoke with Liv about her book "Skiing Into the Bright Open: My Solo Journey to the South Pole," first published in 1995 and recently translated into English.

Managing chronic pain with nonmedical treatments

We've all heard about the challenges of managing chronic pain without creating addiction or causing negative side effects from drugs.  But there are non-medical ways to approach chronic pain that can make a real difference.  Dave spoke with Dr. Roni Evans to learn more.  Dr. Evans is the director for the Integrative Health & Wellbeing Research Program and an associate professor at the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the Univesity

Loon Lessons

A deep dive into all things loon

Loons are an important part of the culture in these northern climates.  They are the official state bird in Minnesota, and they grace the one-dollar coin in Canada.  Brian was joined by James Paruk, author of "Loon Lessons: Uncommon encounters with the great northern diver", to talk all things loon.

What causes "Zoom fatigue"?

Why are Zoom meetings so exhausting? Is it the meeting part or something else?  Dave spoke with Kristen Shockley, a psychologist at the University of Georgia, and Daron Robertson, CEO of BroadPath, a health care services company specializing in remote work.  They recently published a study looking into the causes of "Zoom fatigue."

2021 IgNobel prizes awarded--research that first makes you laugh, then makes you think

The 2021 IgNobel prizes were awarded last week. They’re given every year for scientific achievements that first make people laugh, then make them think. Because of the pandemic, this year's ceremony again happened entirely online — rather than in its traditional home on stage at Harvard University's Sanders Theatre.  Brian spoke with Marc Abrahams, editor of the Annals of Improbable Research, about this year's awards.

An expert talks COVID and vaccines for kids as in person classes return

Many kids are heading back to in-person school, even as the Delta variant is spreading quickly. Dr. Jill Foster, a professor of pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Medical School, joined Ann to talk about vaccines for kids and what parents can do to keep their kids healthy.
