Skylights can be a source of sustainable heat energy according to new study

A new study shows that skylights, in addition to being aesthetically pleasing, could be a great source of sustainable heat energy for buildings.  Dave spoke with building scientist Alexandra Rempel and Earth scientist Alan Rempel, co-leaders of a study at the University of Oregon that focuses on passive solar heating.

Tracking Lions, Myth, and Wilderness in Samburu

Jon Turk, featured speaker at Winterers Gathering, joins Roadhouse

Jon Turk, scientist, author, and National Geographic award-winning explorer, is the featured speaker at North House Folk School’s Winterers Gathering this coming weekend. He’ll be outside on the North House commons Saturday, Nov. 20 at 7:00 p.m., weather permitting, or if not, will present via Zoom. He recently joined Julie to give us a preview of what he'll talk about at the Winterers Gathering.

Sunset Paradise

Paul Huttner talks new album "Sunset Paradise"

You likely know Paul Huttner as the chief meteorologist at MPR, but did you know he’s also a songwriter and musician? And he’s recently released an album called “Sunset Paradise” on Bandcamp. Paul joined Julie and Dave to tell us more about the album.

Thinking of donating blood? Here's how it works.

There’s a shortage of blood right now, and more people are needed to step up and give.  Julie spoke with Kara Gavin, lead public relations rep at the University of Michigan academic medical center.  Kara has given 5 gallons so far and shared some of her firsthand knowledge of donating blood.

Northern Lights by Tom Spence

"Astro Bob" talks newly discoved exoplanet, northern lights, and more

Astronomers have found evidence for a new planet in a galaxy called Whirlpool, 28 million light-years away from Earth.  Dave spoke with Bob King, author of the Astrobob blog. about this new discovery and other things currently happening in our night sky.

Bedtime procrastination - Why do we put off going to sleep?

Why do we stay up later than we should, doing things like watching Netflix or looking at Facebook, when we KNOW we’ll be sorry in the morning? Julie spoke with University of Florida doctoral student in psychology Yijun Lin, who is looking at why this is.
