David Huckfelt plays live on The Roadhouse from Arizona

David Huckfelt is a Minneapolis singer-songwriter whose new album Room Enough, Time Enough evokes vast landscapes with thoughtful, sometimes haunting songs and a great deal of contribution from Native American artists including Keith Secola. He talks about the record and plays songs live from outside Phoenix, AZ on the Roadhouse.

"Astro Bob" talks Perseverance Mars landing, northern lights, and more

The space event of the decade (at least) just happened with the landing of the Perseverance spacecraft on the surface of Mars.

Amateur astronomer Bob King, who writes the blog Astrobob, joined Will to tell us more about Perseverance and other things happening in the night sky. You can see images from the Mars lander here.

How dogs can help us in the fight against COVID

Dogs might be our friends in the fight against COVID by being able to accurately sniff out individuals who may be infected. Professor Tommy Dickey is professor emeritus at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Heather Junqueira is a researcher at the company BioScent in Florida.  They joined Will to tell us more about the research.

Hudson Bay Bound from University of Minnesota Press

New book tells the story of canoe trip from Minneapolis to Hudson Bay

Ten years ago, best friends Natalie Warren and Ann Raiho paddled the 2,000-mile route from Minneapolis to Hudson Bay made famous in the classic book, “Canoeing with the Cree.” Now Natalie has written a book of her own about their expedition. It’s called “Hudson Bay Bound." 

Ann spoke with Natalie about the canoe trip and the new book.

Breanne Marie performs on the Roadhouse

Breanne Marie is a singer/songwriter from Duluth known for playing with her band the Front Porch Sinners. Their latest album is called "Juniper", and she is joined by one Front Porch Sinner, Evan Tepler, for a live remote performance on the Roadhouse.

Local author shares love-hate relationship with running in debut book

Beth Probst lives in rural northern Wisconsin, she's a runner in her 40s, as well as a mother, a professional, a wife, and a caretaker among other things. In 2011 she decided to take up running on a dare, now she's written a book about running, and all that goes with it called, "It could be worse: A girlfriend's guide for runners who detest running."  Beth joined Ann on The Roadhouse to tell us more about her experience and her new book. The Voyageurs Wolf Project has produced some new information about how wolves hunt in the northwoods. Austin Homkes, wolf project biologist and co-author of this most recent study, joined Will on The Roadhouse to tell us more.
