Ultramarathoner Michael Koppy running entire Superior Hiking Trail

Accomplished runner Michael Koppy stopped by The Roadhouse Friday, May 31, to talk about his attempt to run the entire length of the Superior Hiking Trail, 310 miles, starting on National Trails Day. He began at the Canadian end of the trail Saturday morning.

WTIP learns more about Minneapolis based SMILE Network

SMILE Network International provides life-altering surgeries and related health care services to impoverished children and adults in developing nations.  Peggy Halvorson is a surgical nurse who volunteers with the organization.  She's also a part-time Lutsen resident, and she joined us on the Roadhouse to tell us what it's like to be a part of this effort.

Film maker Ben Weaver on his cross-country journey on a bike

Musician Ben Weaver was in town this past weekend to ride in the Le Grand Du Nord.  He also was showing his new film, "Music for Free", which was made last year as he rode the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route from Banff, Canada to the U.S.-Mexico border.  He joined the Roadhouse and chatted with Dave about that trip and much more.

Rich Mattson & the Northstars perform live in studio on The Roadhouse

Rich Mattson & the Northstar Trio joined Dave and Julie on the Roadhouse recently to play some songs from their latest album "Totem".  They also talked about what they've been up to so far in 2019.

Ecological death activists are encouraging “green burials"

For many of us, it’s hard to talk about or even think about our own death or that of a loved one. But a group of people, known as ecological death activists, are suggesting that we think about more environmentally sound approaches to traditional burials.

Nick Mac Murray, a doctoral candidate in sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, joined the Roadhouse to tell us more.

Sweet Nature from University of Minnesota Press

Beth Dooley talks her latest cookbook and local food movement

Award-winning cookbook author Beth Dooley was recently in Grand Marais leading some classes at North House.  While in town, she stopped by WTIP and the Roadhouse to talk with Julie about her latest cookbook, 'Sweet Nature,' which celebrates two natural sweeteners, honey and maple syrup.

Aaron Heaton AKA Heatbox on WTIP

The beatboxing Heatbox on the Roadhouse

Heatbox is the alter ego of Aaron Heaton, a Minneapolis based vocal performer who blends vocal percussion and vocal turntablism with the simulation of horns, strings, musical instruments, and various sonic anomalies.  He joined our own Will Moore on the Roadhouse to perform some of music and explain how he creates his sound.

Resilience is a word that’s been popping up a lot lately, as a positive response and way to adapt to change. But what does it really mean? To help us answer that question, we invited writer and entrepreneur Kate Knuth to The Roadhouse to share her ideas.

One Way Traffic performs on The Roadhouse

One Way Traffic is an Americana/Grassroots band hailing from St. Louis.  The group is Leah Osborne (Ukulele/Lead Vocals), Drew Lance (Percussion/Vocals), Sam Aubuchon (Mandolin), Taylor Perkins (Bass), and Sam Avery (Guitar/Vocals).  You can find out more about the group on their Facebook page.

The group was recently in Grand Marais, and they stopped by the WTIP studios for a live performance on The Roadhouse.
