UMD to host conference on area response to climate change
-The University of Minnesota Duluth is hosting a conference aimed at directing Minnesota's next steps for dealing with climate change on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 19 and 20. Conference organizer Patrick Schoff joined to The Roadhouse to tell us more about the upcoming conference.

The Ann Bancroft Foundation encourages girls to dream big
-The Ann Bancroft Foundation, founded by the groundbreaking polar explorer, encourages girls to imagine something bigger. Over the last 21 years, they’ve granted nearly $1.8 million to girls to help them achieve their dreams.
Sara Fenlason is the executive director of the foundation. Sara joined The Roadhouse to talk with Brian about the Ann Bancroft Foundation's work.

Karin Flatøy Svarstad talks wool, recent stay at North House
-Karin Svarstad has been researching and working with wool for more than 40 years. She has her own cultural center
and gallery on the West coast of Norway. She’s also been a guest instructor at North House for a few weeks recently. Karin stopped by The Roadhouse and chatted with Julie about all thing wool.
Poet Michael Bazzett talks about - and reads from - his book The Popol Vuh
-A poet with Cook County Connections was recently selected by The New York Times as having published one of the ten best poetry books of 2018.
Michael Bazzett's book The Popol Vuh translates the Mayan creation story into verse. Michael joined The Roadhouse during the Worldwide WTIP membership drive to read a sample from his book, as well as tell us more about the process behind translating the stories.
Gunflint Trail and Mesabi Trail documentary to be screened at Voyageur Brewing
-A new documentary about the history and use of the Gunflint Trail and the Mesabi Trail will be screened before the film's TV premiere, right here in Grand Marais at Voyageur Brewing on Feb. 27 at 6 pm. The TV premiere will be Wednesday, March 6 at 7 pm on PBS North.
Lance Haavisto, one of the film's producers joined the Roadhouse to tell Brian more about the film.
Lutsen resident Dave Howe on what inspired him to donate a kidney
-Folk duo Curtis and Loretta stopped by the Roadhouse back in October. They are Minnesota musicians who travel the country collecting people's stories and turning them into folk songs. While talking with host Julie Carlson, they shared one particular story that ended up inspiring Lutsen resident Dave Howe to do something remarkable.
Photographer Bryan Hansel on life as a landscape photographer
-On Wednesday, February 20, local photographer Bryan Hansel is presenting “100 Days on the Road--Life as a Landscape Photographer” at the Grand Marais Public Library.
Bryan is an award-winning professional landscape photographer and outdoor educator. He joined The Roadhouse and gave us a preview of his upcoming presentation.
Photographer Craig Blacklock on his work in the St. Croix and Namekagon rivers
-Craig Blacklock, one of the country’s most distinguished nature photographers, was recently in Grand Marais teaching a class at the Art Colony. While in town, he stopped by the WTIP studios to talk with Roadhouse host Dave about a number of things, including his time spent photographing the St. Croix and Namekagon rivers.
