The Roadhouse is a volunteer-produced music show with a special focus on the weekend, featuring local event and music announcements and a fun music mix. Hosted by a rotating cast of volunteers including Tracy Benson, Julie Carlson, Brian Neil and Dave TerSteeg.

Super Duty and Al Oikari join The Roadhouse

Super Duty's Jon Sullivan (vocals), and Jason Fladager (guitar) joined Al Oikari for a recent gig in Grand Marais.  While here, the group also joined Ann and Dave to play some tunes and talk about the band.

Staci Drouillard on her recently published book, "Walking the Old Road"

Staci Drouillard of Grand Marais (and WTIP development director) is just out with her first book, “Walking the Old Road: A People's History of Chippewa City and the Grand Marais Anishinaabe.” She’ll be reading from and signing the book Thursday, Dec. 5 at 5 pm. at Drury Lane Books in Grand Marais. Staci joined Ann in the studio to tell us more about her book.

Saints of Circumstance in Studio A in Oct. 2018

South Shore-based Saints of Circumstance perform on Roadhouse

South Shore band The Saints of Circumstance stopped by The Roadhouse before a recent gig on the North Shore.  The group is normally a quartet, but performed without their drummer Jeff Kriner, as a trio of David Blong (guitar), Olaf Kirsten (guitar), and Scott McCafferty (bass).

Illustrator Lucy Michell on new picture book set on the North Shore

Musical artists and author/illustrator duo Chan Poling and Lucy Michell are just out with a beautiful picture book for everyone, set on the North Shore. They’ll be in Grand Marais Nov. 30 at Drury Lane Books.  Julie caught up with Lucy recently on The Roadhouse to talk more about the book.

Healthier foods are also better for the environment, new research shows

Recent research shows that healthier foods, besides being better for us, also have a lower environmental impact than other foods. This sounds like a win-win and we wanted to learn more. Jason Hill, bioproducts and biosystems engineering professor at the U of MN College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences, joined Dave on The Roadhouse to tell us more about the study.

Lutsen resident JD Lehr recently returned from hiking 1,600 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail.  He joined Brian on The Roadhouse to tell us why, and how it's changed him.

Mark Joseph on The Roadhouse before his CD release event

Blues guitarist Mark Joseph has just released a new album, “The Musician and the Muse.”   He had a CD release event at the Gunflint Tavern on Friday, Nov. 15.  Mark joined Brian and Dave on The Roadhouse just before the event to play some tunes and talk about the new album.

David Huckfelt on how Isle Royale inspired his latest album

David Huckfelt of The Pines recently released his first solo album, which grew out of time spent as an artist-in-residence at Isle Royale National Park.  David joined Julie and Dave on The Roadhouse to tell us about that experience and album, as well as about a related special event coming up in Minneapolis on Thursday, November 21.

North Shore Readers and Writers humor panelists join Roadhouse

The North Shore Readers and Writers Festival took place in Grand Marais this past weekend.  Included among a number of public events was a panel discussion on writing humor.  We were lucky enough to welcome all three funny panelists, Lorna Landvik, Julie Schumacher and Sally Franson, in the studio to talk before the panel.
