The Roadhouse

Bob O’Hara is a member of the Explorers Club of New York and the Midwest Mountaineering’s Minnesota Explorers Hall of Fame.
A longtime canoeist, Bob will celebrate 60 consecutive years in the BWCAW / Quetico this year.  Bob recently joined The Roadhouse and spoke with CJ about his trips in the BWCAW and Quetico.

Madeline Ostrander is a freelance journalist based in Seattle, Wash. Ostrander focuses on writing about the environment, energy, and science. She recently wrote an article about the impact of black carbon, or soot, on climate. 

Ostrander was recently on The Roadhouse and spoke about black carbon.

The northern Wisconsin band The Saints of Circumstance stopped by The Roadhouse to play their unique blend of music they call "Granolacana", a mix of  Americana/Roots, Country-Blues, Hippie Folk-Rock, and Bluegrass.  They also chatted with hosts Dave and Brian about their music and band.  More information about The Saints of Circumstance can be found here.

The Plucked Up String Band recently released their debut album, "Rooftop to Floor" They stopped by The Roadhouse to celebrate the release, chat with host Dave and Brian about the process, and of course play some tunes.

Thomas Ogren is an allergy researcher and horticulturist​ and he recently stopped by The Roadhouse and spoke with Dave about what we can do to make our gardens and the world safer for those with asthma and allergies.

"Border Country" covers eight canoe adventures taken by Howard Greene and others between 1906 and 1916.  Greene wrote about the trips with great detail in his journal.  Martha Greene Phillips compiled the journals and authored the book detailing the trips. She stopped by The Roadhouse and chatted with Jay about those camping and canoe trips her father embarked on.

Explorers Dave and Amy Freeman will be traveling over 2,000 miles and across nine states during their "Pedal to DC"  They stopped by The Roadhouse just before the local send-off party in Grand Marais on April 13, 2018, to talk with hosts Dave and Tom about the trip.

Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota is holding an open house at the Lower Conference Room in Sawtooth Mountain Clinic, Tuesday, April 17, from noon to 7 pm.  This opens house provides an opportunity to learn about the programs and services provided by the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota.  

If you can't make it to the open house or missed it, Lisa Peterson with the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota recently stopped by The Roadhouse and opened up to Tom about her journey with epilepsy, as well as talk about resources for those who have, or who know someone affected by epilepsy.

Before a gig and a couple workshops here in Grand Marais, Siama and his Congo World Quartet stopped by The Roadhouse.  The group features Siama, singer Dallas Johnson, global music drummer Tim O'Keefe, and renowned cellist Jacqueline Ultan.  Learn more about Siama and his music here.

Don Schreiner is a Fisheries Specialist with Minnesota Sea Grant, and he recently stopped by The Roadhouse and he spoke with Matthew about Food-Fish Aquaculture, and some of the challenges facing aquaculture in Minnesota.
