The Roadhouse

Across the U. S., Superfund sites are being repurposed as recreational areas, renewable energy facilities and more.  May offer lessons for the future.  Freelance science journalist Lynne Peeples joined the roadhouse and spoke with Jay about these sites.

Dave and Tom welcomed the Clearwater Hot Club Trio (Sam and Matthew Miltich, Briand Morrison) to The Roadhouse to play some great jazz music, and share a few stories and laughs too.

All female local band North Country Fair joined The Roadhouse in Studio A to play a few tunes and chat with hosts Dave and Tom.

The Thunderheads Trio once again stopped by The Roadhouse and played some original tunes, as well as a cover or two.  The Thunderheads Trio are Steve Blexrud, lead guitar and vocals; Craig Paquette, guitar; and Don Blue, bass.  More information about the band and future schedule here.

A new program is being offered through the University of Minnesota Extension to teach regular citizens how to identify and report aquatic invasive species.  Megan Weber, extension educator with the Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Research Center, spoke with Jay about aquatic invasive species and the upcoming program.

The coming-of-age film COLD NOVEMBER is now showing in theaters across Minnesota.  The film is written and directed by Minnesota native Karl Jacob, was shot in Hibbing, Minnesota, and the film's cast and crew were all from Minnesota.  Jacob stopped by the Roadhouse before the premiere of the film in Hibbing on March 23 and spoke with Dave about his inspiration for the film and more. 
 

Alamode, a pop & indie funk band based in Duluth, was in town last weekend to play a few gigs. Three band members, Ned Netzel, Peter Knutson & Nathan Holte, stopped by the studio to chat and play several cuts from their new CD, "Swell."

John Shuster is the skip of the gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic curling team, and a native Minnesotan. He joined Dave to talk about the curling, the Games, and the long journey to the podium. 

Bob King, who writes the Astrobob blog for the Duluth News Tribune, joins us regularly to talk all things celestial. This time, he chatted with Ann Possis about the spring equinox, northern lights, star-planet conjunctions, and much more. You can read his column here. 

"Freshwater bluegrass" band Black River Revue hails from Duluth/Superior--they stopped by The Roadhouse last week before they head to Texas for SXSW. The band is Adam Stariha, guitar & vocals; Ian Kvale, bass & vocals; Nate Hynum, mandolin & vocals; and Tim Leutgeb, banjo.
