The Roadhouse is a volunteer-produced music show with a special focus on the weekend, featuring local event and music announcements and a fun music mix. Hosted by a rotating cast of volunteers including Tracy Benson, Julie Carlson, Brian Neil and Dave TerSteeg.

NASA spacecraft to fly closer to the sun than ever before

University of Minnesota physicists are part of a NASA mission to understand coronal heating and the solar wind. The researchers make up one of the four teams chosen to design experiments for the Parker Solar Probe that launched from Cape Canaveral on August 12.  Keith Goetz of the University of Minnesota School of Physics and Astronomy stopped by The Roadhouse to tell us more about this amazing feat.  You can also find out more here, as well as track the Parker Solar Probe during its mission here.

Maria Nickolay performs live on The Roadhouse

Local singer and songwriter Maria Nickolay stopped by The Roadhouse to play some original songs from her album.  Maria also spoke with hosts Ann and Matthew about her experiences living in Northern Ireland for two years.  You can find out more about Maria and her music here.

We all know the Great Lakes are a precious source of fresh water…and lots of people around the world are desperate for water. An interstate compact protects the lakes from distant people taking our water, but will it be enough?  Ron Seely, an award-winning freelance science and environment writer, joined The Roadhouse to tell us more about the Great Lakes Compact.

Genetic testing has become very popular in recent years. How can we be more informed consumers of these products? Dr. Heather Zierhut, assistant professor and associate director of the Genetic Counseling Graduate Program at the University of Minnesota, joined The Roadhouse to tell us more.

Peter Mayer

Singer songwriter Peter Mayer stops by The Roadhouse

Minnesota based singer Peter Mayer recently performed at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts in Grand Marais.  Prior to that performance, he joined Dave and Brian on The Roadhouse.  He talked about how he balances family with a music career, and about his unique guitar he brought along for this performance.

Thunderheads rock The Roadhouse

The Thunderheads made a return stop to The Roadhouse while they were recently in Grand Marais for a couple gigs.  The group played some original tunes and spoke with Roadhouse hosts Julie and Dave about the band has been up to.   The Thunderheads are Steve Blexrud; lead guitar and voice,  Don Blue; bass guitar, Bill Boyce; drums. Dark Sky Caravan coming to Cook County

Cook County is one of the darkest spots in the country, making it a perfect place to look at the sky. The Dark Sky Caravan, a mobile planetarium, is coming up the shore and will be in Cook County August 13-17.  Dr. Joel Halvorson, director of the Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium at UMD, recently joined The Roadhouse to fill us in on what we can expect.

New foods coming to the Minnesota State Fair this year

The 2018 Minnesota State Fair is just around the corner and it’s a Roadhouse tradition to find out about all the new foods they’re offering.
