The Thunderheads return to Studio A

The Thunderheads (Steve Blexrud, Craig Paquette, Brad McDonald) brought their great music to Studio A May 16. They were in town to perform at the Gun Flint Tavern that weekend. The band performs both originals and covers in rock, blues and more.

Buck & Ann welcomed the Joe Paulik Band (Joe Paulik, Jessi Nicholson, John Mianowski & Derek Smith) to The Roadhouse Apr. 25 to play a few tunes and talk about the second annual Cook County Ramble, coming up May 2 at 7 p.m. at Cascade Lodge Pub.


 
 

Michael Monroe & Prudence Johnson make great music on The Roadhouse

Dave TerSteeg & Buck welcomed local musician & songwriter Michael Monroe and his guest, Twin Cities musician Prudence Johnson, to Studio A Apr. 18. Prudence was in town to appear at Michael's Log Cabin Concert the following evening. Listen for fun conversation and some gorgeous sound.


 
 

The Clearwater Hot Club brings gypsy jazz to The Roadhouse

Buck & Dick welcomed the Clearwater Hot Club to Studio A March 21 for some hot jazz on a cold night. The band is Sam Miltich, Matthew Miltich, Mike Miller & Gary Schulte. They were in town to perform at the DuLutsen Music & Ski Festival at Lutsen Mountain.


 
 

Musician Maria Nickolay makes her Roadhouse debut

Buck & Dick welcomed Hovland musician Maria Nickolay to Studio A March 14. Maria is just back from five months in Ireland, Israel, and Palestine, and music played a large part in her adventures. Learn about what she did, and hear some gorgeous vocals.

Dick & Buck welcomed Eric Frost and Bill Hansen to Studio A on a snowy February night. They played a mix of original music and covers and, of course, there was lots of talk and laughter.

Deb Benedict and Buck welcomed blues master Gordon Thorne to Studio A March 7 during our "Spring Forward" membership drivefor lots of great music, including a wonderful song about spring that Gordon wrote specially for the drive. Take a listen. And don't forget the fourth annual fingerstyle guitar weekend, happening April 12 at Bluefin Bay in Tofte.


 
 

Cal Hand & Amanda Hand play The Roadhouse

Buck & Dick welcomed steel guitar and dobro master Cal Hand, and his singer-songwriter daughter Amanda Hand, to The Roadhouse Feb. 14. Cal, longtime performer on A Prairie Home Companion, was in town for a new North Shore Music Association event, "The Grand Marais Ole Opry." They chatted and played some gorgeous music.

The North Shore Music Association presented the first ever Grand Marais Ole Opry on Saturday, February 15, 2014.  WTIP Classic Country host, Carl Solander, emceed the event which featured four acts performing before a nearly packed house.  Carl had a chance to visit with all of the performers backstage before the show.  In this edition of the Local Music Project we’ll hear those interviews as well as a few segments from Saturday’s performance.


 
 

Gordon Thorne warms a winter night with great blues

Dick & Ann welcomed local musician Gordon Thorne to Studio A Jan. 31 for fun conversation and wonderful blues guitar. Gordon is offering guitar workshops every Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. through March at Moondance Coffee in Lutsen. And April 12 is the fourth annual Fingerstyle Masters weekend at Bluefin Bay in Tofte.
