Cathy Quinn welcomed Inuit throat singers Nina Segalowitz & Lydia Etok to Studio A Mar. 15 for conversation, laughter, and demos of the traditional Inuit women's art of throat singing. Nina & Lydia were in Grand Marais for Sivertson Gallery's annual Inuit Premiere Weekend. Take a listen--you don't hear this amazing & unusual art form every day.

Filmmaker Emily Haddad joined Ann Possis recently to talk about her latest documentary, "Girl from Birch Creek," the inspiring story of Rosalie Wahl, the first woman to be appointed to the MN Supreme Court. Emily talks about why she came to filmmaking, how she chose to tell Rosalie's story, and why it's important.

Ann Possis spoke Mar. 15 with Dr. Mark Pereira, professor of epidemiology & community health at the U of MN School of Public Health, about a study published recently in the New England Journal of Medicine showing that a Mediterranean-style diet is very beneficial to one's health. So beneficial, in fact, that the study was ended early because the control group not eating this way was missing out on its good effects. Learn what the foods are, what the research showed, and how you might make changes to your eating habits.

Buck Benson & Ann Possis welcomed Duluth musicians Mary Bue (keyboard) and Kyle Maclean (guitar) to Studio A Mar. 8. They played and sang their original music, before appearing later that evening at Cascade Lodge & Pub.

Buck chatted Mar. 8 with  explorer Lonnie Dupre, recently back from his third unsuccessful attempt to summit Denali solo in January. Lonnie talks about what went wrong, what he might do differently on a fourth try, and more. His memoir, "Life on Ice," is up for a MN Book Award and a NE Minnesota Book Award.

Ann Possis spoke with Prof. Elaine Tyler May of the U of Minn. on International Women's Day, Mar. 8. Prof. May is a historian whose work focuses on the intersections of gender, sexuality, domestic culture and politics. She reflected on what has been accomplished by and on behalf of women, as well as what still needs to be done to bring women into full equality with men.

Buck & Ann welcomed local favorite Gordon Thorne to Studio A March 1 for conversation, laughter and, of course, incredible blues guitar. Gordon's third annual fingerstyle guitar weekend happens this year April 12 & 13--might want to mark your calendar.
