Beer as career: Cook County native Ryan Petz on his Twin Cities brewery, Fulton Beer

Ann Possis spoke recently with Cook County native Ryan Petz who, with three of his friends, founded Fulton Beer. Ryan is president of the company, and talked with us about what it's like to start a brewery, what kinds of beers they've been making, their new tap room, and more. Fulton Beer is available in the Twin Cities and in Cook County, but they plan to expand distribution soon.

Buck chatted recently with Mike Scholtz about his award-winning documentary, "Wild Bill's Run." Described as 'part Arctic adventure, part crime caper,' it's the strange but true story of Wild Bill Cooper, his attempt to snowmobile to Moscow during the Cold War, and what happened in the aftermath. The film will be shown again in March or April at North House Folk School in Grand Marais.

Gwen Westerman on her new book, "Mni Sota Makoce: The Land of the Dakota"

Bob spoke Feb. 15 with Dr. Gwen Westerman, co-author with Bruce White of "Mni Sota Makoce: The Land of the Dakota." The book, from the MN Historical Society Press, details the history of the Dakota people in their traditional homelands for hundreds of years prior to exile.

University of Kansas psychology professors Ruth Ann and Paul Atchley recently completed a study showing that four days out in the wild, without cell phones or other technology, nurtures hikers’ creativity. The Atchleys joined host Ann Possis on the Feb. 1 edition of The Roadhouse to explain more.

John Wright of Lehto & Wright flies solo on The Roadhouse

Buck Benson & Ann Possis welcomed John Wright, of Celtic-folk-Americana trio Lehto & Wright, to Studio A Jan. 18. He claims it was his first-ever solo performance. In any case, he plays some gorgeous guitar. The trio appeared at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts in Grand Marais Jan. 19.
