Scenic Route

Paco Fralick is an Ojibwe songwriter from Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin. He was the recipient of three awards at Indian Summerfest in Milwaukee. He is also nominated for 5 Native American Music Awards this October. He talks with Will Moore about his 2017 album "Letting Go", diving into the stories behind some of the songs, and talks about releasing his first record after playing music for over 30 years.

Wisconsin fiddler Randy Sabien joins local guitarist Gordon Thorne and harmonica player Jim Elverhoy for special live music session. 

Ghost Wagon is a band out of the Twin Cities with country rock vibes and a second album on the way. Lead singer and songwriter Chuck Nelson and guitarist John Mack join Will Moore on the Scenic Route to talk about their music ahead of a show at the Wunderbar in Grand Marais.

The Federales are a country rock band from Minneapolis, proudly playing a truly American style of music in the North. With a new sophomore album on the horizon, they join Will Moore and Joni Peterson on the Scenic Route ahead of a long Labor Day weekend full of shows at the Gunflint Tavern in Grand Marais.

Acclaimed Minnesota bluegrass band Monroe Crossing returns to the North Shore for their annual performance at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts in Grand Marais. Hear them play five rousing songs live on the air and talk about life on the road, playing music on cruises, and a new album that combines choral music with their signature bluegrass sound.

Easy Riders are a trio out of Peoria, Illinois mixing hard rock, blues, and jam rock into a compelling and virtuosic performance. Playing a slew of gigs throughout Cook County, the group found time to give listeners a taste of their music in WTIP's Studio A.

Folk duo The Lark and the Loon trekked up to the North Shore from their Ozark Mountain home in Eureka Springs, Arkansas to play at the Gunflint Tavern in Grand Marais. Despite their southern residence, Jeff Rolfzen and Rocky Steen-Rolfzen took their band name from the state birds of their home states, Minnesota and Montana respectively. With a fresh new sophomore album "Homestead Hands" and another record already on the horizon, they play new music for Will Moore and Carl Solander on Scenic Route.

Ian Tamblyn is a Juno-award winning folk songwriter hailing from the Thunder Bay area, now living in Quebec. With a career spanning 5 decades, 38 albums, and over 1,000 songs, he's known for traveling to distant, isolated places in the great white North to write songs and get inspired by the qualities of northern places. His music is featured on WTIP's Boundary Waters Podcast. He joins Will Moore for an in-studio session after a performance at the Red Rock Folk Festival in Ontario and talks about adventuring, his latest album "Let it Go", and what it means to experience the Lake Superior region.

Doug Otto and the Getaways from the Twin Cities bring a country vibe to the Northland with a show at the Wunderbar in Grand Marais. Members of the band joined Will Moore for a live in-studio session featuring new songs from their latest album "Waltz of Pain".
