Grand Marais native Phil Bowen named Coach of the Year in 2014 Ultiworld College Awards

Carleton College Ultimate coach Phil Bowen was recently named Coach of the Year by Ultiworld, the news site dedicated to ultimate (a team sport played with a flying disc). Dick spoke with Phil June 6 to learn about the season and how he and his team dealt with the tragedy of losing three team members in a car accident. You can read more about ultimate here.

It's down to Duluth vs. Provo, Utah, in Outside Magazine's Best Towns contest

Eric Larsen on his Last North expedition to the North Pole

Eric Larsen, formerly of Grand Marais, just completed his "Last North" unsupported & unassisted expedition to the North Pole. He & his teammate Ryan Waters are only the second American team in history to complete the crossing. Ann Possis spoke with Eric May 23 to learn why he traveled to the Pole and what kind of conditions he found. You can read more about Eric's adventures here.
