The Roadhouse

Eric Weicht is a former Hungry Jack Outfitters employee and recent college graduate who recently circumnavigated Lake Superior by himself via kayak. He shares stories of his adventure with Ann Possis.

University of Minnesota post-grad researcher Mark Ditmer just completed a study that looked at how drones can agitate bears in the wilderness. He goes over his findings with host Dave Tersteeg.

"Hillsider: Snapshots of a Curious Political Journey" is the new book from Duluth Mayor Don Ness. He joins Ann Possis on the Roadhouse to talk about his experiences as mayor and how they are chronicled in the book.

The Heck Yeah Holler String Band (Amymarie Schmidt, Andy Schmidt, Tim Dennison, Pat Flack & Bob LaMettry) made its radio debut (minus Bob) on The Roadhouse Sept. 11, the evening before kicking off the eighth annual Radio Waves Music Festival Saturday morning.

There's a new band in town, the Plucked Up String Band, and they stopped by Studio A to chat and share their great original music. The band is Elliott Noyce on mandolin, Will Moore on upright bass, Matt Nesheim on banjo, and Bill Hansen on dobro. Marshall Helmberger, editor of the Ely Timberjay, has been closely following and reporting on PolyMet's proposed NorthMet mine near Hoyt Lakes. He recently learned that the lead agencies that have overseen preparation of the mine's environmental impact statement may be wrong about where potential contaminants would flow. Dan Hansen, a Duluth digital artist and son of Mark & Wendy Hansen of Grand Marais, has been delving into the history and meaning of numbers. His art exhibit, "Sofia," is a work of historical fiction presented as an archaeological find of the lost writings of Pythagoras. It opens Thursday, Aug. 27 (opening reception 7 p.m.) at North House Folk School and runs through Sept. 7. Dick spoke with Dan Aug. 21 to learn more about the exhibit and what inspired him to create these pieces.
