Bob chatted Sept. 7 with Jim McGowan, Midwest state advocacy director for the American Diabetes Association, about the epidemic of diabetes and obesity, and what can be done to prevent and manage diabetes. Jim is also a musician who was here to perform at Cascade Lodge Pub in Lutsen, and he combined his two passions by writing and performing the "Stop Diabetes Blues."

Bob and Buck welcomed Bill Camplin (guitar & vocals) and Randy Sabien (fiddle AND violin) to Studio A Sept. 7 on the eve of their Radio Waves Music Festival Performance.

Ann Possis visited Aug. 31 with Tom Maertens, a career foreign service officer who served in the White House as National Security Council director for nonproliferation and homeland security in the Clinton & Bush administrations. At the time of the 9/11 attacks, he was serving as deputy coordinator for counterterrorism at the U.S. State Department. He's speaking at Cook County Higher Education Wed., Sept. 5 at 5 p.m. on "Terrorism 2012: The nature of the threat."

Educator David Marshak visited with Bob Aug. 31 and made many compelling arguments for keeping kids with the same teacher longer than one year. Learn more about his ideas and his book, "Kids need the same teacher for more than one year," here.

Bob talked last week with Mitch Dorr, Cook County High School football coach, about the prospects for this year's season. The Vikes already won their first game, against the Two Harbors Agates.

Bob chatted recently with Pam Taylor, coach of the Cook County High School volleyball team, about the coming season. They won their first match of the year. It's going to be a good one!

Erika Butler, wildlife veterinarian with the MN DNR, talked with Buck Aug. 24 about a health threat to moose: eastern equine encephalitis virus, which is carried by mosquitoes. She explained what it is  and how the DNR is working to learn more about this possible factor in moose mortality.  

Bob chatted Aug. 24 with Michael Perry, Wisconsin author and humorist, about his latest book, "Visiting Tom." In it, Perry shares stories and lessons from his friendship with Tom Hartwig, a quirky 82-year-old with, among other things, a love for old artillery.  

Buck and Bob welcomed River Falls musicians Thea Ennen and Dave Peterson to The Roadhouse Aug. 17. Thea was a finalist in the Big Top Chatauqua National Songwriter's Contest, and received a MN Music award for Best Folk Album. Dave is an accomplished bluegrass and jazz guitarist, winner of several first place awards in MN State flatpicking contests, and has appeared on A Prairie Home Companion.

Buck spoke Aug. 17 with Greg Herrick, president of the Aviation Foundation of America, and proud owner of a rare 1954 Aerocar (yes, a car with wings), which can be yours for only $1.25 million. You can see more cool old airplanes at his museum website.
