Artist Open House

This feature highlights the thoughts and ideas behind the work of area artists. Each segment showcases a particular individual and brings the listener into the artist’s studio. The series was funded in part by the Community Leaders Fund of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation.

David MacLean taught biology at Youngstown State University, with a special interest in entomology. He has also played drums for most of his life. WTIP's Martha Marnocha recently visited with him for another edition of Artist Open House.

Artist Open House features Hazel Belvo and Marcia Cushmore

In July and August Hazel Belvo and Marcia Casey Cushmore’s latest paintings grace the Johnson Heritage Post in Grand Marais. Their work is grounded in the environment, but is thoroughly abstract.

Artist Open House is a place where creative people talk about their work in their own words. Not just what they do, but why and what inspires them to continue.

Amy Woschek Schmidt is a published poet who lives in Hovland. When not writing poems, she works as a registered nurse at Sawtooth Mountain Clinic.

Artist Open House: Tom Christiansen, Josh Rice & Puzzle Tree

Metal sculptor Tom Christiansen and assistant Josh Rice are building a new installation for the Grand Marais Library through funding by the Minnesota state Legacy fund. They talk about their new creation "Puzzle Tree" and how they work together at Last Chance studio.

Bead artist Jo Wood featured on Artist Open House

Artist Open House is a place where creative people talk about their work in their own words. Not just what they do, but why and what inspires them to continue.

Jo Wood moved away from Cook County nine years ago. Jo does more than stitch with beads -- she paints with beads. The long hours she spent creating a recent exhibit on the meaning of home has brought her back home, this time for good.
