Mary Casanova on her new book, "Frozen," set in 1920s border country

Ann Possis chatted with author Mary Casanova Oct. 26 about her newest book, "Frozen," from the U of MN Press. Set in the beautiful, wild area near Rainy Lake in the 1920s, it's a historical novel that tells the story of a determined young woman as well as a fascinating time in our past. Minneapolis singer/songwriter Neal Swanger makes WTIP debut

Buck and Bob welcomed Minneapolis singer/songwriter Neal Swanger, along with bass player Dan Olmschenk, Oct. 12, for some great music in Studio A. They were in the county to play a wedding the next day. Neal's new album is called "Broken Ground." He and Dan also play with the band Folk 'n' Thieves.


 

Anishinaabe Way: A Sip of Lake

Rick Anderson owns Sweetgrass Cove Guesthouse & Bodywork Studio in Grand Portage, and is a member of the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. In this edition of Anishinaabe Way, Rick shares a poem about Lake Superior.


 

Duluth singer/songwriter Mary Bue makes her Roadhouse debut

Mary Bue, Duluth singer/songwriter, visited Studio A with her keyboard to chat and play her original songs on WTIP for the first time. She was joined by local musician Bump Blomberg. Her new album is called "An Apple in the Ocean."


 

Musicians Keith Secola & Briand Morrison stop by Studio A for "Dawn and Sea" benefit

Bob visited Oct. 5 with musicians Keith Secola and Briand Morrison about an event to help restore George Morrison's painting, "Dawn and Sea," the artist's gift many years ago to the Cook County Schools. The painting is going on tour with the Minnesota Museum of American Art to museums across the country. Keith, who was inducted into the Native Music Hall of Fame in 2011, played a few songs and talked about his new album, "Life is Grand."

Buck Benson & Dave Seaton welcomed local musician Barbara Jean to Studio A Sept. 28, fresh from her Mountain Stage performance and release of her new album, "The Great Escape." She was joined by David Huckfelt, guitarist for The Pines.

Local singer-songwriter Eric Frost dropped by Studio A Sept. 21. He chatted with Buck and Bob and played several original tunes, accompanied by local musician Bill Hansen.


 

Artist Betsy Bowen & birding expert Laura Erickson on their newest book, "Hawk Ridge"

Bob chatted Sept. 21 with Laura Erickson, producer of "For the Birds," and Betsy Bowen, woodcut printmaker and painter, about their newest collaboration, "Hawk Ridge: Minnesota's Birds of Prey." The book includes every hawk that's ever been reported at Hawk Ridge in Duluth.
