Great blues guitar from Gordon Thorne on The Roadhouse

Buck & Ann welcomed local favorite Gordon Thorne to Studio A March 1 for conversation, laughter and, of course, incredible blues guitar. Gordon's third annual fingerstyle guitar weekend happens this year April 12 & 13--might want to mark your calendar.


 

Duluth filmmaker Mike Scholtz on his award-winning doc, "Wild Bill's Run"

Buck chatted recently with Mike Scholtz about his award-winning documentary, "Wild Bill's Run." Described as 'part Arctic adventure, part crime caper,' it's the strange but true story of Wild Bill Cooper, his attempt to snowmobile to Moscow during the Cold War, and what happened in the aftermath. The film will be shown again in March or April at North House Folk School in Grand Marais.


 

4th Annual Cook County Chili Cook Off a Big Success!

The 4th Annual Cook County Chili Cook Off was held Saturday, February 23, 2013.  Over twenty different types of chili were entered into the competition.  WTIP volunteer Sherrie Li


 

Bump Blomberg & Chris Silver live in Studio A

Bob & Buck welcomed local fav Bump Blomberg, on guitar, & Wisconsin musician Chris Silver, on mandolin and resonator, to the show Feb. 15 for great music. They were performing in several spots around the county for President's weekend.


 

Gwen Westerman on her new book, "Mni Sota Makoce: The Land of the Dakota"

Bob spoke Feb. 15 with Dr. Gwen Westerman, co-author with Bruce White of "Mni Sota Makoce: The Land of the Dakota." The book, from the MN Historical Society Press, details the history of the Dakota people in their traditional homelands for hundreds of years prior to exile.

Author Will Schwalbe on his latest book, reading with loved ones, dealing with grief and more

Will Schwalbe has been editor-in-chief at Hyperion Books and has written for many national publications. His best seller, The End of Your Life Book Club, is a memoir of reading with his mother during the last two years of her life after she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He's the founder of cookstr.com, a website with recipes from many of the world's best chefs. He spoke with Buck Benson on the Feb. 1 edition of The Roadhouse about his latest book, reading with loved ones, dealing with grief and more.


 

Need a creative boost? Hit the trail, say psychology professors Ruth Ann & Paul Atchley

University of Kansas psychology professors Ruth Ann and Paul Atchley recently completed a study showing that four days out in the wild, without cell phones or other technology, nurtures hikers’ creativity. The Atchleys joined host Ann Possis on the Feb. 1 edition of The Roadhouse to explain more.
