Ginstrings bring great bluegrass to Studio A
-Bluegrass band Ginstrings was in Grand Marais recently to perform. Several of the band's members, Gavin Haskin (mandolin), Eli Bentley (guitar), and Edward Hou (fiddle), stopped by The Roadhouse to chat and play a few tunes. You can learn more about their music and their schedule here.
Visiting Inuit throat singers stop by The Roadhouse
-Last weekend marked the 16th annual Inuit Premier at Sivertson Gallery. Inuit throat singers Taqralik Partridge (left) and Nina Segalowitz (right) traveled to Grand Marais to be part of the celebration. They, along with gallery director Abby Tofte, stopped by The Roadhouse to talk about throat singing and what it means, and to demonstrate this amazing vocal form.
Sky Blue Jazz Ensemble concert to feature local performers, original music
-The Sky Blue Jazz Ensemble (the version in studio was Mike DeBevec, keyboard; Eric Hahn, sax; Karina Roth, vocals; Barb LaVigne, flute; Mike Roth, bass) stopped by Studio A recently to preview their upcoming concert. It's called "All Our Own Jazz," Oct. 22, 7 p.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and will feature local musicians playing original compositions.

-Black River Revue is a hard-and-fast bluegrass band from the Twin Ports area, and frequent visitors of Grand Marais' Gunflint Tavern.
"Captain Underpants" creator Dav Pilkey visits The Roadhouse
-What does children's book author Dav Pilkey have in common with Mark Twain, John Steinbeck, and Maya Angelou? His books, like theirs, appear on the list of books most often banned or challenged. Naturally this made us want to talk with him, which Dave Seaton did recently, about all kinds of things, including his best-selling Captain Underpants books, creating books kids actually want to read, and lots more.
