Former NHL star arrested in Lutsen on suspicion of felony assault

Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen confirmed with WTIP that former NHL star and Olympic gold medalist Mark Pavelich was arrested Aug. 15 in Lutsen on suspicion of felony assault.

Forest Service to hold fire information meeting Monday up the Gunflint

Staff from the US Forest Service from both the Tofte and Gunflint Districts are holding a town-hall style meeting from 4-5 p.m.  Monday, Aug. 19 at the Mid-Gunflint Trail Fire Hall.

The peace and serenity of Lake Saganaga was shattered at 7:17 p.m. Sunday, August 11 when the sound of an overheated propane tank rocked the vicinity of a 55-year-old cabin on the Canadian side.

Imprisoned polygamist leader Warren Jeffs has suffered a mental breakdown and isn't fit to give a deposition in a sex abuse case against him, according to a recent court filing.
