Recently the NY Attorney General's office uncovered what seemed to be widespread fraud in the dietary supplement industry, accusing four big retailers of selling supplements that were either contaminated or didn't contain what was listed on the label. So how do we know who to trust? Lisa Dierks, a registered dietitian at the Mayo Clinic, talked with Buck Feb. 27 about dietary supplements and how to make informed choices. Recently the Cook County board voted to keep two proposed MN/DOT towers short enough so they wouldn't have to be lighted, and Cook County is one of the darkest locations in the lower 48 states. Longtime competitor Jan Horak shares Birkie stories...race is weekend of Feb. 20

Jan Horak of Tofte, who with his wife Kathy owns and runs Cobblestone Cabins, is a veteran cross-country skier about to ski his 36th Birkebeiner this year. Author & journalist Damian Fowler on his new book, "Falling Through Clouds"

If you lived in Cook County in 2003, you probably remember the small plane crash that took the lives of the pilot and his sister-in-law, but spared the two little girls in the plane. Journalist Damian Fowler has written a book about the crash and its aftermath, called "Falling Through Clouds." He spoke with Buck Feb. 13 about why he wanted to tell this story, and how Toby Pearson (the girls' father) persisted, after losing his wife and almost losing his girls, to not only recover but to help make changes in aviation insurance law. George Morrison retrospective exhibit opens Valentine's Day at MN History Center

George Morrison was an Ojibwe artist from the North Shore who became a major figure in the modern art movement. Kristin Makholm is executive director of the MN Museum of Modern Art, which organized the exhibit opening Feb. 14. Dr. Matt Miller mixes talk therapy and exercise in 'running therapy'

He talked with Buck Feb. 6 explain why he's doing this unusual form of therapy, why he believes it's so good for mental health to get outside and exercise, and how therapy and exercise enhance each other. Explorer Lonnie Dupre on his successful summit of Denali in January

Canoeist & educator Natalie Warren inspires people to learn from & about their local rivers

In 2010, Natalie Warren & Ann Raiho were the first two women to paddle 2,000 miles from Minneapolis to Hudson Bay, recreating Eric Sevareid's route in "Canoeing with the Cree." Since then, Natalie has been involved in a number of efforts to inspire people, especially youth, to learn about and from their local rivers, and to protect them.
