Author, Hollywood voiceover pro Bill Ratner visits The Roadhouse

Hollywood voiceover professional Bill Ratner chatted with Dave about how he got started in the business, what it's like, and what prompted him to write his book, "Parenting for the Digital Age." He will appear at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts Tuesday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss children and the media.


 

How might climate change affect North Shore tourism? Researcher offers study results

Prof. Mae Davenport of the U of MN Department of Forest Resources, along with colleagues from many other fields, has just completed a study on how climate change could affect tourism on the North Shore. She chatted with Ann Possis about the study's scope and key findings. For 20 years now the Birchwood Cafe has served innovative, sustainable food in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis. Birchwood owner Tracy Singleton and Chef Marshall Paulsen have created a cookbook that helps people get the Birchwood taste at home. Ann Possis spoke with Tracy recently. Largest solar array in state goes online at MSP airport

Minnesota's largest solar power project went online last month atop two parking ramps at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport. Dennis Probst, who spearheaded the project,  is executive vice president for the Metropolitan Airports Commission. He chatted with Dave Jan. 8 about the benefits of the project as well as the challenges involved.

We wanted to learn more, so we talked with Prof. Kathryn Milun of the Institute on the Environment and UMD, who has been studying community solar and developed a project called the Solar Commons. He recently learned that the lead agencies that have overseen preparation of the mine's environmental impact statement may be wrong about where potential contaminants would flow. Pavek Museum of Broadcasting is under-the-radar gem

The Pavek Museum of Broadcasting focuses on the history of radio and TV broadcasting, especially in Minnesota. Steve Raymer, managing director of the museum since its founding in 1988, joined Buck May 29 to talk about how the museum got started, what they collect, and their educational programs as well. Did you know that in the early 1900s, the radio station on the U of MN campus broadcasted football in Morse code? 


 

Think twice before shopping..for anything..when you're hungry

We've all heard that we shouldn't shop for groceries when we're hungry because we'll buy more than we need. But now it looks like hunger might affect our purchases of non-food items, too. Dr. Alison Jing Xu, assistant professor of marketing at the Carlson School of Management, has been studying this phenomenon. She talked with Ann Possis March 6 about her research and its implications for both consumers and businesses.
