Outdoor News is a common subject we report on here at WTIP. Given the station’s geographic location in the far reaches of northeastern Minnesota, it’s a challenge to have a direct link inside the state Capitol to hear environmental issues being discussed by the Legislature.

WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs reached out to MinnPost Reporter Walker Orenstein to help bridge that gap. Orenstein covers the environment and workforce issues for MinnPost. He is a reporter based in the Twin Cities.

In this interview, Friedrichs and Orenstein discuss a recent wolf hunting ban approved by the Minnesota House of Representatives, the DNR's role in issuing permits for and promoting mining in the state, and how environmental issues that impact rural vs. metro parts of Minnesota carry weight at the Capitol.
