The Des Moines Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) set off across Minnesota’s border state on Sunday, July 26.

Each summer, cyclists set out from a starting point near the Missouri River on the western side of Iowa and ride for a full week to somewhere on the Mississippi River.

The annual bike ride across Iowa is an annual celebration and journey for some who become fascinated with the event. For others, 2021 is their first time participating in the athletic celebration on wheels. There are an estimated 15,000 cyclists participating in RAGBRAI this year.

Among the first-timers at RAGBRAI this year is WTIP’s Music Director Will Moore.

Moore decided to join the festivities this year after his brother encouraged him to do so. The first day of RAGRAI started in Le Mars and took cyclists 84 miles to the small community of Sac City. The riders gained nearly 3,000 ft. of elevation along the way.

WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke with Moore as the station’s music director prepared to start day two of RAGBRAI.
