WTIP learns more about recent power outages impacting the North Shore

Two power outages on the North Shore and throughout Cook County have been confusing and perhaps frustrating for some local residents in recent weeks.

The first outage was Oct. 31, with the other occurring exactly one week later on Nov. 7.

The source or reason for the power outages remain unknown at this time.

However, WTIP wanted to hear from local officials familiar with the situation to learn more about these power outages and what to expect moving forward. WTIP’s Rhonda Silence spoke with Arrowhead Electric CEO John Twiest to find out more.

 
UPDATE: On Nov. 11, WTIP received the following update from Arrowhead Electric regarding the recent power outages.

“On Halloween and the following Thursday, Nov. 7, the electric transmission line feeding the North Shore experienced outages. Arrowhead Cooperative, the City of Grand Marais PUC, Co-op Light and Power, and Minnesota Power customers were all impacted. Both events occurred on the overhead line owned and operated by Minnesota Power south of Silver Bay. Minnesota Power was able to track the outages back to a broken insulator on one of their poles. This has been repaired.”
