Winter weather brings tough travel conditions to North Shore
A traffic accident on Highway 61 near North House Folk School in Grand Marais Friday morning served as a reminder about the dangers of driving in winter weather.
No injuries were reported in the single-car accident.
Snow started to fall last night across most of the North Shore area and Cook County, with heavy lake-effect snow likely to continue throughout the day on Friday. The heaviest snow is expected to fall this morning into this afternoon.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the National Weather Service cautioned drivers to slow down and be aware that even a light coating of snow on Cook County roads and Highway 61 can make roads treacherous.
After the snow moves out Friday, temperatures are expected to drop into the low teens or single digits across much of the North Shore region tonight and into tomorrow morning.
