Winter storm brings flooding to downtown Grand Marais
A severe winter storm is making travel extremely difficult in Cook County and flooding parts of downtown Grand Marias.
Reports reached WTIP Sunday morning (Dec. 29) about flooding on the streets of downtown Grand Marais near East Bay Suites and The Beaver House at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Wisconsin Street. Though it has been raining and snowing in town for many consecutive hours, the main source of the flooding is from high water and waves crashing in from Lake Superior.
There are reports of flooding near Lake Superior today ranging from Duluth to Grand Marais.
A mixture of heavy snowfall, sleet and rain is making travel very difficult for most of the region. A winter storm warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. tonight.
Another storm is expected to follow on Monday, bringing more snow and difficult travel conditions to the North Shore and all of Cook County.
WTIP will share all weather updates and related cancellations during the Daybreak program at 7 a.m. Monday morning.
