Wildlife organization questions DNR wolf count

Results from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ 2016-17 wolf population survey suggest Minnesota’s wolf population has increased 25 percent since the 2015-16 survey.

After remaining stable during the past four years, the survey estimates that within Minnesota’s wolf range there were approximately 500 wolf packs and 2,856 wolves. 

Meanwhile, a wolf advocacy group in Minnesota questions the latest numbers from the DNR that state matter-of-factly (through an estimate) the increase in the state’s wolf population.

WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke with Dan Stark, the DNR’s large carnivore specialist about the most recent wolf count in Minnesota.
