Tim Walz is the DFL candidate in the 2018 Minnesota governor's race.

Walz has been the U.S. Representative from Minnesota's 1st congressional district since 2007. He is the highest-ranking enlisted service member ever to serve in Congress. In addition, Walz was a high school teacher in Minnesota and led the football team at Mankato West to its first state championship.

WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke with Walz about why he is running for governor and topics that include copper-nickel mining, education and the tragic death of his brother in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness on Duncan Lake in 2016.
