Vikings teams preparing for fall playoffs
The Cook County Vikings volleyball and football teams are starting the postseason this week.
The volleyball team defeated Wrenshall in their first postseason game on Monday night at Pam Taylor Gymnasium. The Vikings defeated the Wrens in four exciting sets: 25-10, 19-25, 25-12 and 27-25.
Leading the Vikings in the win, Katie Peck - 14 kills and 10 set assists, Molly Lavigne - 18 set assists and six ace serves, and Alyssa Spry - 36 digs and two ace serves.
With the victory, the Vikings move on to face Carlton on the road Wednesday night at 7 pm in the round of 16.
The football team also began the playoffs with a win over the Bigfork Huskies, 38-6 in Grand Rapids. The Vikings advance to the 9man Section 7 semifinals. That game will be in Mountain Iron against the Mountain Iron-Buhl Rangers on Saturday at 2 pm. WTIP's Sterling Anderson and Dick Dorr will be there to broadcast the game on WTIP, with pregame beginning at 1:50 pm.
