Vaccination events continue in Cook County while COVID-19 case count remains low
After a comparatively slower rollout to start 2021, COVID-19 vaccination events in Cook County are occurring in a larger and more public way in the month of February.
Public health officials from Cook County told WTIP the events are running smoothly, including two separate events that have to date vaccinated more than 400 senior citizens and others in the 1a and 1b tiers with regard to eligibility of the vaccine.
Meanwhile, there were no additional cases of COVID-19 reported in Cook Country during the past week. The overall case count remains at 116 since the onset of the pandemic. This remains the lowest overall total of any county in Minnesota.
As more people are vaccinated in Cook County, Dr. Kurt Farchmin from Sawtooth Mountain Clinic in Grand Marais and other physicians are observing and learning more about how people's bodies are responding to the vaccine. In most cases, people are experiencing only mild reactions to the vaccine, including things like a sore arm or slight headache. As more people in Cook County continue to receive the second dose of the vaccine, there is a chance for stronger reactions, including increased fatigue and other symptoms.
Dr. Farchmin shared the latest on COVID-19 and the vaccination process for the virus in an update on WTIP Feb. 3. He spoke with WTIP News Director Joe Friedrichs. Listen to the full audio below.
