Update: Victim identified in fatal crash on Cascade Beach Road

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office has released more details on a fatal accident that occurred at approximately 6:32 pm , July 23.

Dayna Lynn Anderson, 59, of Edina, Minnesota, has been identified as the woman killed in the accident on Cascade Beach Road near Lutsen. Anderson was accompanied by Julie Anne Fasciana, of St. Paul. 

The two women were exploring potential vacation cabins on Cascade Beach Road when they experienced challenges trying to release the emergency brake to exit a steep private driveway when the accident occurred. It is believed the victim became pinned beneath her Toyota Camry when it rolled off the edge of the driveway.

The two women were staying at another cabin in the area with friends.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Lutsen EMS and Lutsen Fire Department along with Cook County Search & Rescue responded. The deceased was transported to the Cook County North Shore Health Hospital. 

Cook County Towing extracted the vehicle from the scene. 

“This is a terribly tragic fluke accident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim and parties involved,” said Sheriff Pat Eliasen.
