Update: Power restored for majority of customers in Grand Marais outage
At approximately 3 p.m. on Sunday, electricity flickered and then went out in some sections of Grand Marais. As of midnight, January 8, the power had been restored to the majority of customers. Power for all should be restored by approximately 1 a.m.
Crews from Grand Marais Public Utilities Commission and Arrowhead Electric worked on the problem. According to the Cook County Sheriff's Office, the outage was caused by a power pole being struck by the Little League Field on Creechville Road.
The Cook County Senior Center has been opened for residents whose homes are without heat and will remain open until it is certain that all outage areas have had power restored. If you, or someone you know, needs someplace to stay during this outage and want to go to the senior center, call 218-387-2660 for more information.
In addition, the Aspen Lodge offered a 50% discounted rate of $49 for anyone who wanted to stay at the hotel tonight as a result of the power outage.
In case anyone is still experiencing a power outage, they should contact the Sheriff's Office law enforcement dispatch at 218-387-3030.
