The 2017 stream trout fishing season on inland Cook County lakes ended at 11 p.m. Oct. 31. Fishing for trout on inland lakes, including both stream trout (splake, brook, browns, rainbows) and lake trout will resume on Dec. 30 for lakes entirely inside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The season for lakes outside of the wilderness will start on Jan. 13, 2018.

WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs was in the field on Oct. 31 for the last day of trout fishing this fall. He spoke with WTIP’s Rhonda Silence about the end of the season and conditions up the Gunflint Trail.
