Thoughts on Indigenous Peoples' Day
October 9 has been designated Indigenous Peoples’ Day in many municipalities and counties, including Cook County. Everyone is invited to participate with the students and staff at Cook County Schools Monday, October 9 for Indigenous People’s Day.
Students and family members are invited to wear any or all of the four directional colors: red, black, yellow and white. You are also welcome to wear clothing that has Grand Portage or any other Indigenous Nation’s name printed on it.
Students and staff will also be bringing in items to be placed inside the Sawtooth Mountain Elementary hallway display case to help educate about Indigenous people and cultures.
Oshki Ogimaag School in Grand Portage is hosting a Fall Feast on Indigenous People’s Day. Students will be helping prepare the feast and the Stonebridge Singers will be sharing drum song. Community members are invited to wear traditional regalia. The Fall Feast begins at 5 p.m. at the Grand Portage Community Center.
