Explorer Lonnie Dupre on his successful summit of Denali in January

Lonnie Dupre summitted Denali a few weeks ago after three previous attempts, becoming the first person to ever accomplish this solo in January. Matthew Brown reaches 50,000 lifetime sailing miles on Caribbean adventure

WTIP Program Director Matthew Brown had a goal of sailing 50,000 miles by the time he was 50. He just completed the last 3,000 miles, on a sailing adventure from the north coast of Africa to Antigua, sailing with an organization called the Jubilee Sailing Trust. Their mission is to enable people of all physical abilities to sail. Dick caught up with Matthew Jan. 9 to learn all about it.

Roadhouse producer Ann Possis put host Buck Benson in the guest seat Jan. 2 for a conversation about his recent bicycle adventure through South America--a 6,875-mile journey that took 4 1/2 months. Roadhouse producer Ann Possis turned the tables on Buck to learn about his upcoming adventure biking  from the equator to the tip of South America. The trip will take 4 1/2 months and require biking 6,875 miles. You can follow Buck through his blog, and we'll also provide regular updates on The Roadhouse. 


 

Grand Marais native Phil Bowen named Coach of the Year in 2014 Ultiworld College Awards

Carleton College Ultimate coach Phil Bowen was recently named Coach of the Year by Ultiworld, the news site dedicated to ultimate (a team sport played with a flying disc). Dick spoke with Phil June 6 to learn about the season and how he and his team dealt with the tragedy of losing three team members in a car accident. You can read more about ultimate here.


 

It's down to Duluth vs. Provo, Utah, in Outside Magazine's Best Towns contest

Duluth has beat out 62 other towns and is up against just Provo, Utah, in the Outside Magazine Best Towns Tournament. Outside Associate Editor Jonah Ogles chatted with Buck June 6 about the contest and about what makes a town a great place to live and play. You can vote for Duluth here.
