Michael Monroe returns to The Roadhouse

Local favorite, singer-songwriter Michael Monroe, stopped by The Roadhouse to chat and share a few tunes. He's busy right now working on the Acoustic Grooves Concert, a fundraiser for Arrowhead Animal Rescue, at the ACA Sun., Oct. 29. Check WTIP's music calendar for more info.


 

Artists, singers from this year's Inuit Premiere stop by The Roadhouse

Every year, Sivertson Gallery holds the Inuit Premiere, featuring Inuit art and throat singing. This year's featured artist, Ningiukulu Teevee, and throat singers Taqralik Partridge and Nina Segalowitz, joined CJ to talk about their work and to demonstrate the art of throat singing.


 

"Seven Ways to Trick a Troll" author Lisa Lunge-Larsen, illustrator Kari Vick chat with CJ

Lutsen artist Kari Vick and Duluth author Lise Lunge-Larsen are out with a wonderful new book, "Seven Ways to Trick a Troll," for kids and adults of all ages. CJ chatted with them about the book and how they collaborated to make it happen. Lise and Kari will sign copies of the book Sat., Oct. 21 at Sivertson Gallery in Grand Marais.


 

Wisconsinites plot to steal our lakes; Minnesotans fight back

We read recently about a fiendish plot by some Wisconsin folks to steal Minnesota's lakes! Naturally this warranted further investigation. Lisa Legge, web editor and reporter for the Pioneer Press, who broke the story, joined Dave to fill us in. You can read her original story here. 


 

Dave & Amy Freeman talk about their new book, "A Year in the Wilderness: Bearing Witness in the Boundary Waters"

Explorers Amy and Dave Freeman spent a year in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness to bring attention to threats to this area. Now they're out with a book about their experience, complete with gorgeous photos from their journey. They stopped by The Roadhouse to speak with CJ about the book and their experience. Local musician Fred Anderson revisited The Roadhouse the weekend of Radio Waves. Listen for his beautiful guitar on both originals and covers. 


 

Longtime wilderness guide Douglas Wood on his new memoir, "Deep Woods, Wild Waters"

Douglas Wood, longtime wilderness guide, is also a prolific author, perhaps best known for his first book, "Old Turtle." Now he's out with a memoir about the mysteries of the natural world, "Deep Woods, Wild Waters." He talked with CJ about the book and what he hopes to evoke and share with others about canoe country. 


 

Local faves the SplinterTones release new CD

Local favorites the SplinterTones are just out with a new CD of their delightful, eclectic music. Four of the band's members--Leah Thomas, Liz Sivertson, John Gruber, and Max Bichel--stopped by The Roadhouse to chat about their work and play a few cuts from the CD. Their big CD release party was Sat., Aug. 26 at Grandma Ray's. You can learn more about the SplinterTones here


 

Wild & Scenic Film Festival coming to Duluth Sept. 14

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is considered one of the nation's premiere environmental and adventure film festivals. Johan Ehde, on-tour manager for the festival, joined Dave to talk about the festival's mission and goals. Selections from this year's festival will be shown in Duluth at Clyde Iron Works Sept. 14. U of MN has big presence once again at this year's State Fair

The University of Minnesota is celebrating 158 years at the state fair this summer. The U's vice president of university relations, Matt Kramer, joined CJ to talk about a few of the cool things the U is doing at the fair this year.
