Talking “Minnesota’s Geologist” with author Sue Leaf

Newton Winchell was hired in the 1870s to map Minnesota’s geology, by canoe, horse, and train, in just 20 years.

Sue Leaf has written a wonderful biography of him that illuminates this pioneering scientist as well as the history of the time, called “Minnesota’s Geologist.” Ann spoke with Sue to learn more about the book, just out from the University of Minnesota Press.
