A woman was rescued this morning along the Cascade River after losing her footing while on a hike near the high-flowing waterway.

At approximately 10:45 a.m., a rescue operation involving a variety of emergency responders and local law enforcement assisted with the operation to safely remove the woman from the river area. Initial reports said the woman became stranded on a rock near a stretch of falls on the Cascade River after slipping while on a hike.

At approximately 11:25 a.m. the operation concluded when the woman was assisted to shore. She was then transported to the emergency room in Grand Marais.

Responders to the incident include the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, the Lutsen Search & Rescue Rope Team, North Shore Ambulance, State Patrol and U.S. Border Patrol.

According to a follow-up report, an adult female, whose name has not been released at this time, was visiting from out of town and was hiking with a walking stick when she lost her footing and slipped down near the waterfall area. The woman then became stranded on the Cascade River. Emergency responders were able to rescue the woman and she was sent to hospital to be assessed.
