Stauber talks Twin Metals mine in WTIP interview

Pete Stauber represents Minnesota’s Eighth District in the U.S. House. He was in Ely Aug. 22 near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness for an event regarding the future of a proposed mine on the edge of the wilderness.

At the Ely event, Stauber spoke in favor of a labor agreement signed between Twin Metals Mining and the Iron Range Building and Construction Trades Council. In short, the agreement guarantees that Minnesota workers will be hired to construct the mine and other facilities should the project move forward.

While speaking in favor of the process to create the mine, Stauber also said a copper-nickel mine on the edge of the BWCA could “invigorate critical industries like healthcare and tourism.”

Stauber was in Grand Marais Aug. 28 and stopped by WTIP to speak with Joe Friedrichs about issues facing the BWCA, including the proposed Twin Metals copper-nickel mine.
