Slippery roads lead to several crashes on Sunday

The rain and snow mix that fell on Sunday, November 4 played a role in a number of car crashes in Cook County.
 
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office received its first crash call at 3:07 p.m. Cheryl Rodewald, 56, of Grand Marais, driving a 2004 white Dodge Ram went in the ditch by the Cut Off Road intersection with the Gunflint Trail.
Rodewald said she was traveling approximately 21 miles per hour when she lost control on the slippery road. Her truck ended up on its driver’s side in the ditch.
 
There were no injuries.
 
The call on the second crash came in shortly after at 3:37 p.m.. The driver was Nicole Bockovich, of Grand Marais, driving a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. Bockovich stated she slid into the ditch on County Road 7, but no emergency response was needed.
Her car suffered significant damage and was left in the ditch until it could be safely removed later.
 
Another report of a vehicle in the ditch came in at 5:10 p.m. on West Highway 61. A 2005 GMC Sierra was off the road in the ditch and not a traffic hazard. The vehicle was locked and the occupants were not on the scene, so a sheriff deputy put caution tape around the car to let passing motorists know the county was aware of the crash.
 
 A final call on Sunday came in from a Cook County Highway Department worker at 5:54 p.m. reporting a pickup truck in the ditch at the intersection of County Road 7 and County Road 44.
 
Bradley Beck, 56, of Roseville, lost control of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving and went into the woods, knocking over the stop sign and county road sign. There were no injuries or citations.
