Search and Rescue helps teens out of Kadunce River
Cook County Search and Rescue and the Colvill and Hovland fire departments were paged to the Kadunce River in Colvill just before 5 p.m. last night to rescue hikers stuck between two waterfalls on the river.
The hikers, two females from Grand Marais, ages 15 and 17, asked passing hikers to send help.
Members of the fire departments and Search and Rescue hiked up the river and were able to get the girls out of the spot without use of ropes. They were able to continue the hike down river and no medical attention was needed. Rescuers were clear of the scene by 7 p.m.
This is the third time rescuers have been called to the Kadunce River in this area.
Fire Chief Tom Thompson reminds the public to wear appropriate footwear while hiking and to think about your surroundings when in wild areas.
