Sea Grant faces budget cuts that could impact Cook County

Funding for Minnesota Sea Grant would be eliminated if President Donald Trump’s budget proposal is passed by Congress this year. Minnesota Sea Grant — which focuses on the state’s inland waters, including some in Cook County, and Lake Superior — receives about $1 million in federal funds each year.

WTIP’s Joe Friedrichs spoke Minnesota Sea Grant Director John Downing and Andy Bramburger, a research associate from the Natural Resources Research Institute, University of Minnesota Duluth about the proposed budget and funding for Sea Grant.
