Schroeder events kick off holiday season
The holiday season kicked off in Cook County with the North Country Crafters Christmas Bazaar and the Cross River Heritage Center holiday gathering.
On Saturday, November 17 dozens of crafters offering beautiful handmade items, baked goods, wreaths, jellies and more at the Schroeder Town Hall. The hall was filled with shoppers and friends and family enjoying sweet treats.
The nearby Cross River Heritage Center was open for the last day of the season, with “Mrs. Santa Claus” and a helper cooking samples of lefse and krumkaka. There were also artistic crafts for kids.
The Schroeder events were the first of many celebrations of the season, such as:
Christmas Market at the Winery – a one-day European-style Christmas Market - November 23 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The market will feature local vendors selling art, gifts, food, wine, and cider.
Shoppers can enjoy holiday music by Briand Morrison from 1-4 p.m.
Light Up Lutsen – a gathering hosted by the Downtown Lutsen Business Group on Saturday, November 24 from 2 - 6 p.m. Light Up Lutsen includes food, drink, caroling, specials at participating Lutsen businesses and a holiday lighting at 4:45 p.m. Santa Claus will be there throughout the day.
Annual Holiday Craft Sale & Open House - Community crafters and vendors invite shoppers to the Cook County Community Center on Saturday, November 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Hovland Holiday Arts Festival – Hovland artists and artisans gather at the Hovland Town Hall on Saturday, November 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Arts Festival features photography, Ojibwe beadwork, woodworking, fiber art, birchbark baskets, candles and prints as well as lots of pottery. There will also be a great selection of handmade ornaments. Refreshments available.
Holiday Market at Voyageur Brewing Company – at the Grand Marais brewery from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, offering gift items for shopping while enjoying a cold, locally made craft beer.
Northwoods Fiber Guild Holiday Sale & Open House – Saturday, December 1 at the Grand Marais Art Colony. This annual event is a well-known tradition on the North Shore, featuring an amazing variety of fiber art crafts handmade by Fiber Guild Members.
Grand Marais Craft Bazaar – On December 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the 2nd annual event held at the Cook County Senior Center in Grand Marais features crafters from all over Cook County bringing their pottery, jewelry, fiber arts and more.
Santa’s Workshop – on Saturday, December 1 at the Cook County Community Center (a NEW location), is hosted by the Cook County Girl Scouts. At the workshop, there is a shopping area for children only, a pancake breakfast, a chili lunch, a bake sale and Girl Scout-made crafts for sale.
