When the twin towers fell on September 11, 2001, the 62 members of Missouri’s Search and Rescue task force were called into action. It was September 12th by the time the Missouri task force got to downtown Manhattan. The team spent the next ten days searching the giant debris pile that had been the World Trade Center.
WTIP shares the team's memories of the days following 9/11.with this feature from St. Louis Public Radio.
Locally, the Grand Marais Fire Department has its ladder truck in Harbor Park with a flag at half-mast as a sign of remembrance…a nice spot for reflection for those who want to do so.
