Remembering local artist Alice Powell
Local artist Alice Powell of Grand Marais, died peacefully Thursday, October 19, 2017 at North Shore Hospital in Grand Marais surrounded by family and friends.
Alice came to Grand Marais as an art student at the Grand Marais Art Colony in its earliest days. Her voice can be heard in a History Speaks feature produced by WTIP for the 50th anniversary of the Art Colony titled Doing Art on the Corner of 3rd Avenue West and 2nd Street—Recollections of 50 Years in the Art Colony Studios.
The hour-long feature is narrated by Kelly Schoenfelder and was produced by Jay Andersen.
We share an excerpt from that feature, an interview with Alice Powell and Carolyn Severeid here.

On our website, you also hear Alice’s voice in Anishinaabe Way, a series produced for WTIP by Staci Drouillard. In Anishinaabe Way, Staci shares interviews with Alice’s beloved husband, Milt Powell, with Alice chiming in occasionally.
