Rally held in Grand Marais to protest attorney general's firing
A series of protests took place across North America on Thursday, Nov. 8, triggered largely by President Donald Trump’s firing of U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Trump replaced Sessions with Matthew Whitaker as acting attorney general.
In the days following the election, activists across the country have said that Whitaker should recuse himself from the ongoing investigating by Robert Mueller into possible Russian interference in the 2016 national elections.
In Grand Marais, a protest took place Thursday evening in conjunction with the national gatherings. About 30 people stood outside the Cook County Courthouse to take part in the national event. The protest in Grand Marais was one of the hundreds of ‘rapid response’ events across the country organized by nonprofit activist group MoveOn.
Organizing the local rally was Lutsen resident Tom Christiansen. He stopped by WTIP the morning after the demonstration and spoke with News Director Joe Friedrichs.
