The US Forest Service is planning a prescribed burn for tomorrow on Monday up the Gunflint Trail. The fire area is located approximately 17 miles north of Grand Marais and a half-mile west of the Gunflint Trail in the vicinity of the “Moose Viewing Trail.” The burn area is 200 acres in size.

The wind is expected to be out of the northwest tomorrow. With this in mind, there is a good chance for smoke to carry down to Grand Marais and the North Shore on Monday.

On Tuesday, the wind is out of the southwest so the smoke will be headed toward Greenwood and McFarland Lakes, according to the Forest Service.

The smoke should not be an issue in terms of being thick in nature or settling down to the ground, the Forest Service notes.
