Plenty of action at "Dig Pink 2018"
There was plenty of pink in the Pam Taylor Gym at Cook County High School on Monday, October 22. The high school volleyball hosted “Dig Pink 2018.”
The evening kicked off with a game between the junior varsity (JV) team facing their parents and teachers. The JV quickly defeated their older counterparts in game 1, but the parents and teachers fought back valiantly and won the next two, winning the day.
Next up was the varsity girls’ team versus their parents. Because this was not a regulation tournament, matches were limited to 30 minutes, so after two very well fought games, the girls and parents ended in a tie.
Wrapping up Dig Pink 2018 was a match between the girls’ varsity team and some brave senior boys. That turned out to be the most exciting game of the evening as the girls won the first match, despite some powerful spikes and aggressive blocking from the boys.
That led to a second match that was close throughout, with the score tying at 25-25. The game continued until there was that decisive 2-point lead, back and forth, back and forth until finally, the varsity girls pulled ahead, ending with a score of 30-28.
It was all in good fun, for a good cause. Dig Pink has been a Cook County High School tradition since 2009. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society and the North Shore Health Care Foundation travel fund for cancer patients.
